You would be much better discussing that with your doctor. I doubt there are many pregnancy/diabetes experts here. I would guess you dr might want you stable for a while longer before you try again.

Ask to be refered to a pregnancy clinic through the dept. of diabetes at the hospital – your diabetes will have to be extremely well controlled upto and during your pregnancy – if your bloods are high during pregnancy the main risks to the baby are of cleft palate and misscarrage during early pregnancy and still birth later on as well as a high birth weight, but the biggest risks are to you as pregnancy can speed up the development of complications from diabetes. I only know this about type 1 cos that’s what I have but see no reason why type 2 wouldn’t be similar – don’t do this alone – the pregnancy clinic will give you heaps of support and specialist diabetes advice so will be much better! Good luck – hope you get pregnant soon :) xxxxx

You don’t give your age, which would have been useful. I am sure you are already aware that diabetics can have more problems in pregnancy than average.

There is a contradiction in your question, you say that you have been trying to conceive for a year and then ask if you should try and get pregnant!

If you have already been trying for a year I would think about a referral to an infertility clinic as there will be a wait until you are seen. In the meantime, if it has not been done already you need 2 basic tests, a day 21 progesterone to confirm you are ovulating, and a sperm count from your partner to confirm he is capable of fathering children.

If you are on oral diabetes meds you will have to change over to insulin.
Plan an appointment with a perinatologist. They usually work at hospitals. They deal with hi risk pregnancies. They will help you get in the best shape to conceive.
I did that and have three lovely children.
    Good luck

I’m in UK so not sure what your readings mean but I’m guessing they are running high. I was told that my sugar levels should be as good as possible before trying to conceive as it could affect the growth of the baby in the womb and could possible damage the growth of organs if they were really bad.
In my opinion, if you are asking then you know in your heart that you should wait until 100% certain.
