Can diabetes type 1 cause a low immune system?

    Well, diabetes can interfere with the function of white cells in the blood, which fight infection. Not sure that would mess with your immune system to the point where you wouldn’t be able to fight a cold. Probably just getting a lot of colds. Just a coincidence I say.

    It is thought that Type 1 diabetes is an auto immune (or at least has auto immune tendency)
    But both types of diabetics tend to have lower auto immune responses anyway

    Yes… Diabetes (All Types) affects all aspects of the body, from the circulatory system, the endocrine system, to the immune system. Having uncontrolled blood glucose levels makes you more vulnerable for other conditions, slow healing of wounds, and particularly, infections, colds, and the flu. The immune system will definitely take a beating on this.
